With a deep feeling of sadness and bereavement, we record the death of our wife, L. C. Sumners, who on May 9, 1886, was taken by the great Husbandman, from our home garden to the Eden above, there to bloom in perpetual beauty and loveliness. None can tell how we miss the sweet voice that made music in our home. None but those who have laid their own dear wives away out of sight, have folded the cold, still hands over the pulseless breast and gazed the last time on earth upon the dear form that ever brought a flood of sunshine to our hearts, can truly sympathize with us.
She was twenty-nine years and two months of age; was married to me December 24, 1877, by Elder Billie Dixon; was the daughter of J. H. and M. S. DeFord. She was raised by God-fearing parents and had been taught from her earliest infancy the great truths of the Bible. She obeyed the teachings of the
apostles and united with the Church at Gum Spring, August 26, 1872. She was sound in the faith, proving her faith by her works, always anxious to meet with brothers and sisters, but I being out of Christ, and having but little confidence in religion attended but little. But thanks be to God, through her pleading and Godly walk, I have been influenced to obey the Lord and try to follow her example, and try to raise my four little motherless children that they may make good men and women in the Lord. 'Tis hard, O very hard to give6 her up but, Lord, thy will be done.
But we mourn not as those who have no hope. We look above and beyond where our dear ones are gathering around "the great white throne."
T. D. Sumners

Leonora was the second of eight children born to James Henry and Susan Allen DeFord. She married T.D. in Dec. 24, 1877. Leonora died a year after her last child Saidee was born. She is buried with her parents and two brothers.
