Smith "Smitty" Hargrove, age 84 of Rockwall, TX, passed away October 9, 2009. He was born November 25, 1924, in Ardmore, AL, to Ernest Clifton and Mary Ruth Hargrove. A resident of Rockwall for 17 years, Smitty was a faithful member of New Heights Baptist Church in Wylie, TX, actively serving as head usher. He also served as deacon and trustee of other churches throughout his Christian life. Smitty served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired as owner/operator of a dry cleaners. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. Smitty is survived by his wife: Helen Hargrove of Rockwall; son: Larry Hargrove and wife Tracy of Heath, TX; daughter: Debbie Hargrove and husband Tommy Swagerty Jr. of Rockwall; daughter-in-law: Janet Hargrove of Heath; brother: Harold Hargrove of Florida; sisters: Betty Panter & husband Robert of Estill Springs, TN, and Marcella Brannon of Carson, CA; grandchildren: Cher and Dale Sewell of Rockwall, Wendy Hargrove of Caddo Mills, TX, Kenneth Hargrove II of Heath, TX, Heidi Hargrove of Dallas, TX, and Loni Hargrove of Heath; great-grandchildren: Victoria, Cory, Raynie, Noah, Casey, and Samantha; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kenneth, 4 brothers and a sister. Pastor Steve Foster officiated.
