Death has again invaded our village and removed one of our well-known residents in the person of Henry S. Metz. The end came on Monday afternoon, February 10, 1913, at the family residence on Eagle Street, Williamsburg, after weeks of patient suffering. Born and reared in this vicinity, he was actively interested in its development. His birthplace was in the town of Clarence, where on May 19, 1845, he was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Metz (nee Gowalt). Of the family of five children, three sisters, Mrs. John Haubell and Miss Esther Metz, of this village, and Mrs. Tanner, of Jackson, Michigan, survive the deceased, while one brother, Frank W. Metz, preceded him in death. Beginning early in life and dependent upon his own resources, Mr. Metz started an agricultural business, from which he drifted into his well-known coal and wood business at D. L. & W. tracks, Buffalo. Being possessed of uncommon business ability and a keen insight, his efforts were very successful. For forty years he has been in his present business. He was prominent in village affairs, having served as a member of the Board of Trustee's for several years. He married Susan M. Hummel, who mourns his loss. Two sons, Albert H. and Irving J., and a daughter, Mrs. Henry E. Brelos, were born to them, Irving J. Metz having passed away about three years ago. At the family residence, the obsequies are being held this afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. L. M. Moody officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Williamsville Cemetery, the bearers being, Messrs. Harvey Metz, M. A. Metz, Dr. M. M. Metz, Warren Metz, J. U. Metz and William Hummel.
