A. H. Metz, Fuel Dealer, Dies at Williamsville.
A North Buffalo and Amherst fuel dealer for more that 50 years, Albert H. Metz, 71, of 110 Eagle st., Williamsville, died Thursday afternoon in his home after several years of ill health. He was vice president of the H. S. Metz Coal Co. Inc., 21 La Salle ave., and was one of the founders of the Bettinger Coal & Coke Corporation. Mr. Metz got his start in the coal business at the age of 12, helping his father, the late Henry S. Metz, who began selling fuel in 1872 at a Main Street coal yard near the Erie Railroad. Mr. Metz and his sister, Mrs. Henry Brelos, in 1916 incorporated the company under their father's name. After helping to organize the Bettinger Corporation, Mr. Metz served as its vice president. Poor health forced him to retire five years ago.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Emma Snyder Metz, and his sister, Mrs. Brelos. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the residence. The Rev. Frank Patterson, pastor of Calvary Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Williamsville Cemetery.
