In 1844 he married Catherine Ann Traxler and during their marriage they lived in Pennsylvania, Iowa, and Illinois but, in 1867 they settled in Indian Creek, Story, Iowa, and after 14 years living there in a log cabin they finally built a good framed home and remained their until their deaths. They had 10 children together but, only 7 lived to adulthood; George, James, Maud, Frank, Samuel, Susanna, Emma, Sarah, Jacob, and Mary.
