Willis Thomas Phillips was the son of George Baker Phillips and Mary Susan Dunaway. He married Mary Annis Hall, the daughter of Joseph Marion Hall and Mary Annis Taylor. He was a lifelong resident of Chattooga County, Georgia. He fathered seven children, all of whom are buried in The Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Gore, Georgia.
