Cora Letha White (a) was born on April 12, 1897 in Blossom, Lamar County, Texas, daughter of Milton Jackson White and Emily Minerva Lusena "Sena" (Johnson) White Guthrie. She was known as "Letha". She attended Blossom schools. For a time, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator.

She was sister of Tilden "Edd" Edward (1887); Florence Nellie (1889); Emmett (1891); Stella Mae (1894); Lura 'Sis' Bell (1900); Alma Eugenia (1903); Finis Elchar (1906) and Robbie Leona (1909) White.

On January 7, 1917, Letha White married Hugh Arlie Thompson (1896-1955) in Paris, TX. They were the parents of Virginia 'Gin' Rose (1924) and Donna Clarice (1918) Thompson.

Some of the places she has lived were mostly in Paris, TX including 2241 Hubbard St (1966-1989), 1880 E. Washington (1964), Cedar St (1964), Rock House at Reno, TX (Oct 1952-1955), 1707 Lamar Ave (May 1939 to Sept 1952), 425 Lamar Ave (1941) and a Red House between Sylvan & Blossom, TX (1920).

She was very faithful in attending and being active for 50 years in her church, First Baptist Church, Paris, TX. She loved to send cards for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, get-well and special occasions.Throughout her life, Letha mailed out many postcards and greeting cards to friends and family. She loved to read the poems of Helen Steiner Rice. Her belongings revealed those poems saved, as well as, noting the words of her favorite hymn, "Because He Lives".

Family memories also include her making the best cooked-candied apple slices as she was known for that specialty, especially at family gatherings. Her dressing was always a special favorite during the Holidays.

By 1989, her family had grown to include 3 grandchildren, Jimmy Hugh Jackson, Becky (Eubank) Semple, Sally McEwin and 4 great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jay, Lara & Jason.

On January 27, 1989, Cora Letha (White) Thompson, age 91, died of heart failure at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Funeral service was held on Jan 30, 1989 with Dr. James Semple, recent pastor of First Baptist Church and father of her granddaughter's husband, presided with burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Paris, TX, under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Footnotes: (a) Many family trees and references seem to duplicate incorrectly her name as Letha Cora, maybe because she want by Letha. On the front page of her bible, she wrote her name as Cora Letha White.
