HARBERT E "HARB" ALLEN
Shaft — Harbert E. "Harb" Allen, 82, of Shaft, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at his home.
Born May 20, 1922, in Klondike, he was the son of the late James Allen and Christine (Patterson) Allen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie (Drew) Allen; five brothers and two sisters.
"Harb" was employed for thirty years at the Allegany County Court House. He was Methodist by faith. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa.
He is a member of the American Legion Post 24 and the Shaft Volunteer Fire Dept., Co. 17.
Surviving are his son, Dale E. Allen, Vale Summit; his daughter, Eileen Joy, Cumberland; two grandchildren, Tisha Lloyd and husband Gunnery Sgt. Lance Lloyd, Camp LeJune, Jacksonville, N.C. At present, Gunnery Sgt. Lloyd is serving in Marcent Dibouti, The Horn of Africa, and Stuart Joy and wife Lori, Cumberland; five great-grandchildren, Draven Joy, Trenton Joy, Lance Lloyd II, Ashley Lloyd and Joshua Lloyd; and one sister, Franciene Yates, Carlos.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. The Shaft Volunteer Fire Dept., Co. 17 will hold a service at the funeral home on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating. The American Legion 24 Honor Guard will then have the military rites.
His body will then be cremated. Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
