Mabel O. Olson was born December 1, 1906 near Glenburn, the second of 10 children born to Ole "Chris" and Clara (Christianson) Olson. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Glenburn. She earned a 2 year standard degree at Minot State College, and taught in rural schools in Renville County and at Baker, Montana. She also worked as a librarian aid in Great Falls, Montana.

She married Leonard S. Peterson on August 9, 1941, at Miles City, Montana. After their marriage they lived in California for a time. In 1947 they moved to Minot. Then, in 1960 they moved to Great Falls, Montana and lived there until 1975 when they returned to Minot. They had no children.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard; brothers, Henry, Milton and Carmen Olson; sisters, Olga Koen and Clarice Schimmelpfennig.
