Ivy Lee "Sam" Cross, 91, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Sam was born March 23, 1918, in Sentinel, Washita County, Okla., to Grover and Lillie Cross. He served in the Army Air Corps. He retired from Southwestern Public Service as a linesman. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid history buff. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Cross; and two sons, Sammy Cross and Danny Stokes.

Survivors include a son, Tom Cross; a sister, Patsy Dodds; four granddaughters, Stacey White, Ambrosina Cross, Tiffany Stokes and Angela White, his special caregiver; four grandsons, George Cross, Tommy Cross, David Cross and David Grounds; and eight great-grandchildren, Rachel White, Brianna White, Haley Grounds, Cinthya McSmith, Rebecca McSmith, Sammy Pope, Shelby Cross and Jack Cross.
