Grant "Shorty" Lyons, 86, of Mars, PA, formerly of Eastvale, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009.

Born April 8, 1922, in West Brownsville, PA, a son of the late Freeman Grant Lyons and Lucinda "Lula" Ellen (McDonough) Lyons, he married Ethel "Ecky" Florence (Stanton) Lyons on June 5, 1948, in Beaver Falls. He was the last surviving sibling of his family.

He was an employee of the Hydril Co., Rochester, for 50 years, and was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Chippewa Township. A member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as a Corporal in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard, Henry, Charles, Lewis Raymond, Lawrence Edward, Howard, Gilbert Graham and Allen Lyons; sisters, Bessie Lyons, Sarah (Lyons) Austin, Margaret Genevieve (Lyons) Stimmel and Luella Lyons; daughters, Lula Ann (Lyons) Vogel and Rosemary (Lyons) Seybert; son-in-law, David M. Cobb Sr.; grandson, David M. Cobb Jr., and great-grandsons, Nicholas and Nathen Miller.

Surviving are two sons, Grant Lyons Jr., Eastvale, and Gilbert Raymond Lyons, New Galilee; daughter and son-in-law, Alene Elaine (Lyons-Cobb) and Ron Ashurst, New Sewickley Township; two sons-in-law, Robert L. Vogel, Chippewa Township, and John H. Seybert, North Sewickley Township; 12 grandchildren, John and Amy Seybert, College Hill; Brad and Stephanie Seybert, North Sewickley Township; Heather and Harold Adrian, South Beaver Township; Missy and Brian Miller, Baden; Bobby and Francine Vogel, Darlington; Colleen Lyons and Mike White, Eastvale; Bobbie Lyons, Beaver Falls; Jessie Cobb and David Ellis, Beaver Falls; Autumn Ashurst, New Sewickley Township, and Chasity Plum, Gilbert Plum and Ashley Plum, all of Beaver Falls; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Mike Mitchell and Nellie Laftus, New Brighton, and Bill and Esther Stimmel, Brownsville, and sister-in-law, Helen Stanton, Beaver Falls. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews on the Lyons and Stanton sides of his family.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. in the LUTTON BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME, 1117 Fifth Ave., www.luttonfuneralhome.com. Pastor Thomas H. Ranney and Rev. Steve Morris will officiate.

Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the cemetery to conduct full military honors.
