AU SABLE FORKS – Paul Betters, a lifelong resident of Au Sable Forks, with the exception of the past year, passed away at 9:15 o'clock Friday evening last at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Irene Gelina of Sodus Point, N.Y., in the seventy-seventh year of his life.

Mr. Betters will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A host of friends is reminded by his death of those days many years ago when the family use to live at Taylor Pond. There his friends would gather and make his home their headquarters for hunting and fishing. Always plenty of good food and extra sleeping quarters were found. After the evening meal the hunting and fishing stories were told, which Paul and Mrs. Betters enjoyed with the rest. He was an employee of the J. & J. Rogers Company for 35 years and retired on pension. On January 30, 1924, while still a young woman, Mrs. Betters was called to her heavenly home.

Mr. Betters leaves to mourn his loss, in addition to the many who knew him well, two sons and three daughters; Victor and Arthur Betters of Silver Lake, Mrs. Eva Dumar, Schenectady, Mrs. Cora Greguoli, Waterbury, Conn., and Mrs. Irene Gelina, Sodus Point, N. Y. Also 12 grandchildren as follows: Mrs. Violet Hackett, Plattsburg; Mrs. Marie Parrott, Mrs. Rose Sheffield and Howard Betters, all of Silver Lake; Gerald and Orpha Duman, Schenectady; Rupert and Alfred Dumar, who are in the United States Army; Spaulding Duman, Schenectady; Dominic, Mark and Albert Greguoli, all of Waterbury, Conn. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive.

The remains were sent to Lake Placid by train from Sodus Point. There, E. Bromley Sprague, local funeral director, transferred the body to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Betters at Silver Lake. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning at St. Matthews church, Black Brook, with Rev. Manuel Belleville, the pastor, celebrant of the requiem high mass, assisted by Rev. George Donnelly, pastor of St. Catherine's church, Clintonville, as deacon, and Rev. Joseph Stickelmyer, assistant pastor of Holy Name church, Au Sable Forks, as sub-deacon. Burial was in the church cemetery at Black Brook.
