JOHN DANIEL PATE

John Daniel Pate was the son of William Robert Pate and Rachel Mae Hicks. He was born in Clarke County, Mississippi in 1872.

His family moved from Mississippi to Nacogdoches County, Texas in the late 1800's. After a while they moved to Shelby County, Texas, near Arcadia, Texas.

John met and married Dicey Modenia Peace, September 28, 1893 in Shelby County, Texas.

John was a farmer and a pioneer preacher in Shelby County, Texas. When he was called to preach, his wife taught him how to read and write. He was a great spokesman for GOD.

To this union was born the following:
William Albert, John Alvin, Vernice Alta, Otis, Artis, Alvie, Norma Lee, Bevie Odell, Robert Rushing, James Elvie, Luderice Aubrey, Joe who died at birth and Cealsie who died shortly after birth. A total of twelve boys and one girl.

In 1932 Modenia passed away, leaving this family without a wife and mother.

John met and married Susie Purcer, August 8, 1932. She took good care of grandpaw, and was a wonderful grandmother to his grandchildren.

As they got older, his children in Louisiana built him a home and moved them close to them. This was a time of enjoyment for all the family.

We all have wonderful memories of time spent with our grandpaw. He was LOVED VERY MUCH!

Gravesite Details

I believe that Joe Pate is buried in a grave that I found in Black Jack Cemetery, but no proof can be found! I have tried to find a record that shows who he is!
