BENNETT, Iowa -- Fred Earl Achey, 97, of Muscatine, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Unity Hospital after a lingering illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mark Rickels, David Smith, Mike Rickels, Matt Smith, Andy Anderson, and John Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Jonathon Achey. Burial will be at Inland Cemetery in Bennett.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Achey was born July 22, 1903, in Cedar County, the son of Frank and Mary Alice Ehresman Achey. He married Ethel Mae Motz, June 24, 1924, in Muscatine.
He was educated in rural Cedar County schools.
He was a retired farmer and self-employed truck driver. He was also employed by Bennett Feed Service as a truck driver.
Survivors include six daughters, Marjorie Shultz and her husband, Paul of Wilton, Doris Anderson and husband, Russell of Tipton, Phyllis Rickels and her husband, Rex of Monticello, Betty Anderson of Tipton, Marilyn Smith of Iowa City, Carol Grage and her husband, Jack of New Liberty; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Homer Achey of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Alice Ehresman Achey; his wife, Ethel; a son, Gerald Achey; a grandson, Paul Jr. Shultz; a great-granddaughter, Michelle Smith; three brothers, Mearl, John and Harold; a sister, Esther Nebergall.
