Abb Sweat, 66, who was reared near Middlesboro and who came to
Anderson County to work with loggers near Briceville and later with the state highway department, died at Lake City Hospital Sunday night. He had been recently retired. Sweat was a member of the Laurel Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife; Mrs Mattie Patterson Sweat; step daughters, Mrs Marie Phillips, Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs Ella Mae Sutton of Duff, and Mrs Blanche Seiber
of Oliver Springs Rt 2; half brother, Charles Pierce of LaFollette; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. The Rev Verlin Phillips and the Rev B Ray Phillips officiated at the services Wednesday morning at Laurel Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
On his delayed birth certificate, Abb indicated his name was Abb and his mother's maiden name was Verna Sweat. The name of his father was left blank. On his WW II registration he used the name Albert and listed Verna Pierce as his nearest relative. Review of available records indicate he usually used the name Abb.
