His parents are not known. He is almost certainly NOT the son of Timothy Allen and Rachel Bushnell, whose son Timothy has a lengthy biography as a graduate of Yale College and who is buried in Chesterfield, MA. He may be the son of Theophilus and Lydia (Smith) Alling, who (with wife Sarah) purchased land in Woodbury, CT. [The histories of Pawlet and Rutland indicate that he came from Woodbury, CT.]

Husband of Sarah Parmelee, whom he married on Nov. 13, 1744 in Branford, New Haven, CT, and with whom he had seven known children:
