Dr. Naseeb Shaheen, PhD, 78, of Memphis, TN. and formerly of Dalton, passed away Saturday September 26, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was the son of the late Azeez and Saleemeh Shaheen. He was a doctorate PhD professor of Shakespeare English at the University of Memphis for many years. He was the author of many books and papers on Milton and Shakespeare including "the definitive work on Shakespeare's references to the Bible" in Shakespeare tragedies, comedies and histories released in individual books and later in one volume of 880 pages. He also assisted and proofread for his father Azeez Shaheen a genealogy of "Ramallah its History and Genealogies" comprising 25,000 names from the founding of Ramallah, Palestine in the 1550's. He is also the author of two volumes of a "Pictorial History of Ramallah", pictures he collected personally over the years on his visits to Ramallah, Palestine. He is survived by his brothers and their spouses, Shaheen (Piera) Shaheen of Dalton, Shouky (Doris) Shaheen of Atlanta, and Tawfeek (Margaret) Shaheen of Sonoma, CA.; nieces and nephews, Gay Shaheen Slesar, Suzanne Shaheen Hansen, John Shaheen, David Shaheen, Joey Shaheen and William Shaheen; grand-nieces and grandnephews, Maria Shaheen, Mark Shaheen, Lauren Shaheen Koch, Alexandra Shaheen, John Shaheen II, Michael Shaheen and Luke Slesar. The family will receive friends and guests Tuesday at 1 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 1817 Dug Gap Rd. Dalton. Services will be Tuesday at 2 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Minister Richard Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery (for family only). The family request no flowers and contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, P.O. Box 187, Dalton, Ga. 30722.
