Mr. Dayvault was born in Number 4 township, at the old Dayvault home, on October 10, 1876, the son of the late Paul M. and Hettie Dayvault.
He lived in Kannapolis all his life, and watched the building of the town of Kannapolis with keen interest and pride. He worked for the Cannon Mills Company in the carpenter shop and chain room for the past 35 years, and would have been awarded his 35-year gold button at the Veterans Employees banquet this month.
He was a member of the W.O.W. and P.O.S. of A. orders, and was an active member of the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church, serving as an elder for a time.
He was survived by the widow, Mrs. Mertie Patterson Dayvault; six sons, James, Carl, Robert, Roy, and Kenneth Dayvault of Kannapolis, and Harry Dayvault of the U.S. Army at Camp Wolters, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Deamie Overcash, Mrs. Mary Peeler, Mrs. Alice McCombs, and Mrs. Helen Richardson, all of Kannapolis; three brothers, John, Marks, and Adolphus Dayvault, all of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
