James Alexander Dayvault, 72, of 618 N. Main St., died Sunday at 10:20 a.m. at the Lutheran Home in Albemarle.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church of which he was a member. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove.

A member of one of Kannapolis pioneer families, Mr. Dayvault was a life-long resident of Rowan County. He was the son of the late David H. Dayvault and Mrs. Jennie Castor Dayvault.

Mr. Dayvault was employed by Cannon Mills in the Finishing Dept., Plant 1, until his retirement in 1964.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Beaver Dayvault; his stepmother, Mrs. Mertie Patterson Dayvault of Kannapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Dunham (Thomas) and Mrs. Louise Martin (Johnny) of Kannapolis; one son J. Harold Dayvault (Virginia) of Kannapolis; five brothers, Carl H. Dayvault, Robert L. Dayvault and Kenneth M. Dayvault of Kannapolis, Harry M. Dayvault of Greensboro and Roy D. Dayvault of Charlotte; four sisters, Mrs. Deamie Overcash, Mrs. Mary Peeler, Mrs. Alice McCombs and Mrs. Helen Richardson of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

*Married Grace Viola Beaver July 31, 1920, Rowan County, NC.

*James and Grace Dayvault had three sons that died after birth:

Bobbie Ray Dayvault (1929)
