Mrs. Bessie (Stroud) Bell of Loris, one of the builders in Loris's growth over the past 35 years, died March 4, 1964. She was the widow of Perry D. Bell of the Zion Community who died in 1945. She was born in Horry County Aug. 4, 1897, a daughter of the late Lewis Stroud and Mrs. Florence Griffin Stroud. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Bell was an extensive landowner in the Loris area. She was the owner of the first motion picture theatre, the Loris Hotel, several of Loris's store buildings and had real estate interests at Crescent Beach and Myrtle Beach.

Surviving are four sons, Rep. Lloyd B. Bell, Ocean Drive, Roscoe Bell, and H. Roger Bell and Leneau Bell, all of Loris; two daughters, Mrs. Edward K. Hessett, New York City, and Mrs. W. E. Kreidler of Bermuda; a sister, Mrs John D. Grainger of Tabor City, N. C., 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
