Myrtle J. Benson, 93, of Morris and formerly of Rancho Bernardo, California, died Sunday evening November 24, 2002 at the West Wind Village in Morris.

Myrtle was born in Crookston on January 30, 1909, the daughter of Martinus L. and Bergit (Brokken) Skrivseth. She grew up in Crookston and attended Crookston Schools. Myrtle then attended a business school and worked as an accountant bookkeeper in Moorhead. In 1938 she moved to California to pursue a career in business. In 1944 she served as President of the Valada Business and Professional Women's Club of Hollywood.

On November 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to William E. Edwards. They made their home in Los Angeles. For many years Myrtle was active in the White Shrine, a Masonic affiliated body. In 1955 she served as the Worthy High Priestess of El Birch White Shrine. In 1974 she received the highest appointment accorded to the member of the Order when she was appointed Supreme Worthy Herald of the Supreme White Shrine, an international order. On August 26, 1968 Myrtle married Louis A. Benson and the couple lived in Rancho Bernardo. They traveled a great deal on behalf of the Masonic Order. She moved back to Minnesota on May 26, 1999 and became a resident of the Alzheimer's Unit of West Wind Village.

Myrtle is survived by a sister in law, Emma Skrivseth of Crookston, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William and Louis, three brothers, Lester, Melvin and Clifford Skrivseth and three half brothers Selmer and Edwin Skrivseth and Obie Thompson.
