RANCHO BERNARDO
Louis A. Benson, a 28-year resident of Rancho Bernardo, died Friday, Jan. 12, in his Remington Club residence. He was 95.
Born in Appleton, Minn., on Feb. 18, 1900, he lived in Los Angeles before moving to Rancho Bernardo. He was retired for 20 years after a career in the restaurant business. He owned and operated the Bluebird Cafe with "Duffer Pederson" in Moorhead, Minn.
He graduated from Appleton High School and Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., and coached basketball in Two Harbors, Minn. He also coached football at Concordia College in Moorehead, Minn. During World War II, he was a member of the 10th Mountain Ski Division. He was a 29-year member of the American Legion and a 73-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Myrtle Skrivseth Benson of Rancho Bernardo; niece, Lois Benson Pflueger and her husband, Bob Pflueger; and nephews, Austin Palmer, Ingram Benson and Thomas Benson; and Thomas Bensons wife, Leatrice Benson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dora and Thomas Benson; brothers, Oscar, Edwin and Elmer Benson; sisters, Josephine Palmer, Eva Hemistra and Esther Nickels; and his first wife, Clara Duea Benson.
Services and burial are being arranged in Appleton, Minn.
