Kenneth David Altepeter, 68, a lifelong resident of Crookston, Minnesota, died in the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Monday July 5, 2004, after a short illness. Kenneth was born in Crookston on January 2, 1936, the son of David and Evelyn Capristran Altepeter. He was baptized and confirmed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and graduated from Cathedral High School. As a young man Ken was a very talented baseball player and a medal winning golden glove boxer. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 12, 1956 and served overseas in Germany until his discharge on December 31, 1958. Just prior to his discharge Ken was united in marriage to Tove Nielsen on December 6, 1958 in her native Copenhagen, Denmark. Ken and Tove made their home in Crookston where one daughter, Vivian. Ken was an iron worker and master welder for most of his career prior to retirement in 1981. He and Tove enjoyed raising horses at their rural Crookston home and Ken was also an avid hunter. He was a long time member of the Cathedral parish and Crookston VFW #1902. Sadly, Tove passed away on August 3, 2001.

Family members included Ken's daughter and son in law, Vivian and Bill Thingelstad of Fargo, North Dakota; two grandchildren, Katie and Byrce, both of Fargo; his very special companion, Elizabeth Watson of Crookston, Minnesota; two brothers Jim and (Twyla) Altepeter and Donald Altepeter, all of Crookston; two sisters Lyla Johnson, and Marilyn Schulz, both of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides his wife, Tove, Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Gerald Altepeter.
