Lois Elizabeth Alvey, 85, of Shelbyville, Ind., died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in Shelbyville. She was a member of Saint Benedict Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud L. Alvey; her father, Joseph G. Higdon; and her mother, Carrie Belle Smith Higdon.

Survivors include four daughters, Audrey Long of Needham, Ind., Geraline Merrick and Marilyn Pierce, both of Shelbyville, and Rose Swazay of Waldon, Ind.; a son, Kenneth Alvey of Clarkson; a sister, Nora Higdon of Cecilia; five brothers, Robert Higdon and George Higdon, both of Clarkson, Dewey Higdon of Boggstown, Ind., Virgil Higdon of Summit and Frank Higdon of Franklin, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Central time Monday at Saint Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Kreutzer officiating.

Burial will be in Saint Benedict Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Central time today with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Central time today at Rogers Funeral Home in Clarkson.
