From Holland St. John - "Born in Arlington, Iowa in February 5,1890, the son of Winfield Scott and Marion Minerva Phillips St John, Lewis came west with his family in 1903 who settled in the town of Snohomish, Snohomish County near Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Snohomish High School in 1909 and the University of Washington in 1914. After teaching for three years, he entered the Army and fought in major battles during World War I. On September 3, 1921 he married Edna Grace Jones at Okanogan, Okanogan County, Washington where he was employed at Gregory Ford Motors and raised their three boys in Okanogan: Winfield Scott, Robert Eugene and Lewis Holland. He was a member of the city council and served as mayor of the town during the 1940s. Lewis took an active part in community life and served as Cubmaster and later as Scoutmaster of the local Boy Scout program. For many years he contributed to and was involved in local organizations such as the American Legion and the Knights of Pythias. Throughout his life he enjoyed the out-of-doors and did a good deal of fishing and some hunting of deer. He kept a large vegetable garden and grew a wide variety of flowers even after retirement. In his senior years he gradually grew poorer in health and after loosing the fight when cancer attacked the lymph glands, he died on December 10, 1964 at the age of seventy-four. He is interred next to his wife Edna in the Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens located on Pogue Flat near the town of Okanogan, Okanogan County, Washington."
