Son of Peleg Barrows and Hopestill Darling. Grandson of George Barrows and Patience Simmons, Benjamin Darling and Mary Richards.

Husband of Jemima Drew, the daughter of Thomas Drew and Abigail Harris. They were married May 4, 1775 in Halifax and had the following children:
* Thomas Barrows 1777 – 1839
* William Barrows 1778 – 1866
* Mary "Polly" Barrows, Mrs Asaph Washburn 1780 – 1846
* George Barrows 1783 – 1843
* Stephan Barrows b 1785
