Ralph William Cook Sr. passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 in Meridian, ID at the age of 91.

He was born on May 22, 1918 in Flint, Michigan to William Floyd Cook and Lula Mae Spraker Cook. He resided in Meridian, Idaho at the time of passing and leaves his beloved wife, Arlene and son Ralph Jr.

Ralph was raised in Flint, Michigan and graduated from Flint Central High School and then continued his higher education and graduated from Kettering Institute (GMI – General Motors Institute) in 1941. He then started his career as a Tool Engineer with General Motors Chevrolet. He went on to work with a design company in Spring Lake for a brief time and then returned to Saginaw to finish his career at Saginaw Steering Gear. He retired in 1980.

During the time in his life that he was working and raising his family, Ralph took an active leadership role with many community and civic groups. He was very active in the Kiwanis group, Masonic Lodge F & AM Flint #23, American Society of Tool Engineers, Saginaw Genealogical Society, and producer of the Saginaw County Timbertown Log genealogical publication. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school and worked with the youth.

After raising a young family and retiring from his career, he and his wife joined their local Michigan chapter of the Avion Travelcade group and toured widely all over North America for 11 years. During this time he also enjoyed stopping at sites and locations to identify personal family history and to collect genealogy. He happily spent his latest years compiling this vast amount of genealogy.

Ralph and Arlene moved to Meridian, Idaho in 1999 to be closer to their family and to enjoy getting to know their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves his wife Arlene; his son Ralph Jr. and wife Rama (Idaho), and four grandsons and their families, Don and Julie and their children, Megan, Jake, Zack, Nate, and Molly (Illinois); Scott and Kylee (Utah); Ryan and Lori and their daughters Whitney, Andie, Heidi, and Bailee (Idaho); and Nicholaus Cook (Idaho). He also leaves a brother, Robert and his wife Peggy (Michigan); and a sister-in-law Lois Cook (Florida). He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Emily Ann, and his brother George.
A short private memorial service was held in Boise, Idaho on Sunday August 2, 2009 at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Concluding services will be in Flint Michigan, under the direction of the Swartz Funeral Home and burial will be at Sunset Hills.
