L. Campbell, Golf Club Owner, Dies
Leon W. Campbell, 72, husband of Rachel Hallowell Campbell, Meadow Brook Golf Club, died early this morning in Phoenixville Hospital after a short illness. A son of the late Theodore and Annie Willman Campbell, he was born in Phoenixville and lived here all of his life. He and his father were in business together in Phoenixville for many years. From 1914 to 1922 they operated the old Washington Hotel on Bridge St. From 1922 until 1928 they conducted the Theodore Campbell and Son Clothing Store on Bridge St. Until 1946 they operated Campbell's Recreation Center on Morgan St. From 1929 to 1933 they operated Campbell's miniature golf course on Route 29. In 1933 they built the Meadow Brook Golf Club which was the first public golf course in Chester County. He was a member of the Phoenix Hose, Hook, and Ladder Co. No. 1 and the Greens Superintendents' Association of America. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two children, a son, Theodore E. Campbell, at home; and a daughter, Joanne, wife of Dr. Frank Brown of 403 Valley Forge Road. There are also six grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, 610 Main St. Burial will be in Morris Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

LEON W. CAMPBELL - Funeral services for Leon W. Campbell were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 at the Campbell Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Dunderdale, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Morris Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Pechin, Alex Malkoski, James Cunniff, F. Walter Brown, George Roskos, Richard Davis, and Fred Shoemaker.
