Double Headstone with Newton Harris HodgesHenderson, TN: Hattie Frances Tacker Hodges Smith, age 88, passed away Monday morning, July 18, 2022 at her daughter's home in Jackson.

She was born April 18, 1934 in McNairy County, near Finger, the daughter of the late William Guy and Mary Gladys Hysmith Tacker. She went to school at Bethel Springs and married Newton Hodges in 1952. They made their home at Jacks Creek. She worked as a cook and later as a teacher's aide at Jacks Creek School. Mr. Hodges died in 1978. She worked as a certified nurse's aide at Chester County Nursing Home from 1982, and worked there for twenty-four years.

She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

She married Harold Smith in 1982. They made their home in Henderson. Mr. Smith preceded her in death in 2008. She continued to make her home in Henderson.

She loved to cook, enjoyed her flowers, gardening and helping raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Danny Hodges (Gail) of Henderson and a daughter, Annette Fitzgerald of Jackson; four grandchildren, April Downing (Wade), Bud Reddin (Jessica), Brent Hodges (Lindsey) and Phillip Hodges (Jennifer) and six great grandchildren, Brylee Downing, Ben Hodges, Lilly Hodges, Samantha Hodges, Cruze Reddin, Danica Reddin and Emelia Reddin; a brother, Bobby Tacker of Henderson and a sister, Betty Morris of Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Newton Hodges and Harold Smith, a great grandson, Nathean Burress in 2020, a brother, Calvin Tacker and a sister, Cassie Hunt.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Tony Hysmith, April Downing and Bro. Bobby Russ officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM service time on Wednesday.
