Death of Rev. J. M. Dodson

It becomes our duty this week to chronicle the death of one of Davis' pioneer citizens, Rev. J. M. Dodson, who died yesterday at 6 p.m. at Norman. He had been sick about a month, suffering from a nervous breakdown. The body was brought home today and the funeral will be held at the Baptist church tomorrow afternoon. The exact hour for the funeral has not been set.

Mr. Dodson was one of Davis' best citizens. He was a man of high moral character, stood for the right and the clean things of life, and was held in high regard by Davis citizens among whom he has lived for 20 years or more. He was a Baptist preacher but was not active in the ministry. He was born in Jackson county, Ark., 67 years ago. He was only six months old when his parents moved to Texas, where he grew to manhood and lived many years, coming to Davis more than 20 years ago. He was twice married, first to Miss Ophelia Tippitt, to which union eleven children, five boys and six girls, were born, all of them now living except the oldest and youngest sons, who died in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs. D. S. Griffin of Davis: Mrs. W. I. Ludrick of Waco, Texas; Floyd M. Dodson of San Antonio; Mrs. Jodie Walls of Davis; Will J. Dodson of Sherman; Mrs. C. P. Johnston of Davis; Garland Dodson of Davis; Mrs. E. Ridgeway of Duncan, and Mrs. R. B. Loyd of Robberson, all of whom are or will be here to attend the funeral.

His second marriage was four years ago to Mrs. McMurty, who is left to mourn the loss of her companion.

Rev. Dodson was a good man, one who believed in doing right and treating his fellowman right. He had a host of friends in this section, all of whom are saddened to learn of his death. And their sympathies go out to the bereaved ones in their sorrow.
