George Stoffel 76, of Springfield died Monday at his residence.
He was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Springfield, the son of George L. and Viola Robinson Stoffel. He married Elna C. Handley in 1946. A lifelong Springfield resident, Mr. Stoffel retired from Sangamo Electric after 39 years as a milling machine operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Elna C.; a daughter, Carol Barlick of San Jose, Calif.; a granddaughter; two sisters, Margaret Zimmerli and Lorene Keltner, both of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Staab Funeral Home, the Rev. H. Warren Wilkewitz officiating. Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park.
