Barbara Lucretia Lustig of Gainesville died Monday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 87.

Mrs. Lustig was a freelance writer and served as women's editor and society columnist at the San Francisco Bay Peninsula for 17 years. She also worked as a feature writer for the Tallahassee Democrat and a special writer for the Jacksonville Times-Union.

She served in the Women's Army Corps for three years.

Born in Clay County, Ala., she was valedictorian at Alachua High School and attended Jacksonville Junior College and Eastern State Teachers College in Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Lustig moved back to Gainesville in 1982.

Survivors include a sister, Jeanette E. Wilson Beckham of Gainesville; and a brother, George D. Baucum of Orlando.

Funeral Notice:

LUSTIG, MRS. BARBARA LUCRETIA Memorial Services for Mrs. Lustig, age 87, Free Lance Writer, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 1997 with Chaplain Ronald Will officiating. Burial will be in Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua, Florida. Following the Memorial Service, Mr. Glynn Markham, a member of the D-Day, Normandy Veterans who participated in the Allied Landing in France on June 6, 1944 will play "Taps" in honor of Barbara. The arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 175 NW 23rd Ave., Gainesville, FL 32609. Friends may call at the Funeral Home.
