She was actually born in "Aunt Martha's house across the road from the church". She was the oldest of four children, and wanted to be a teacher since she started school at Little Creek. She fulfilled this dream by graduating from Concord College in Princeton, West Virginia, getting her teaching degree and eventually going on to teach grade school for 34 years. A career she really loved.

She married Jimmy Parks in 1959, they had one son Mark Stephen, born in June 1960.

She and her family lived in Jacksonville Florida, where she died at home in April 1997.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Tavia Smith.
