Ezra Forrest Smith was born February 17, 1909 in Leckie, West Virginia. His parents were Elvira Baily Smith and Edward Smith. He was a life-long resident of Leckie, West Virginia.

Ezra was a member of Boyd's Chapel United Methodist Church in Leckie, West Virginia where he served as the adult Sunday School teacher and Lay Speaker. He also served as Lay Speaker at a variety of other local churches.

He drove a school bus for over 40 years. He worked the small family farm where he raised cows, chickens, and pigs along with a small vegetable garden. With this small family farm and garden he fed his family and supplemented his income.

He enjoyed discussing politics and religion (subjects normally considered off-limits) with just about anyone who was willing to have an intelligent conversation. He also had a very sharp and witty sense of humor.

Although not an avid hunter, he had a small collection of guns and rifles of which he was very proud. With these guns he taught his son and a grandson how to shoot emphasizing safety and accuracy.

Ezra was married to Tavia Jane Richardson on January 1, 1936. They were married for 54 years, had four children (Carol, Brenda, Alfred, and Belva Kay), and eight grandchildren.

He died December 13, 1990, in a hospital in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was 81 years old. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
