Arthur Shields served in the War of 1812 in Captain William Alexander's Fannettsburg Company of Colonel John Findleu's Regiment. This company was hurriedly recruited immediately after the word was received of the burning of the Capitol at Washington, DC, and marched to Baltimore March 25, 1814, where it was discharged September 23, 1814.
