Services for "Judge " Alvis Barge Sr., 77 of Zavalla will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in The First Baptist Church of
Zavalla with the Rev. John Wood officiating.Interment will follow at the Zavalla Cemetery.
Alvis was born Sept.29, 1921, in Zavalla, Texas to the late Lollie Alvis (Crawford)and Andrew Jackson Barge Sr.
Alvis died Wednsday July 28, 1999 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Barge was a retired Wood Yard Manger for Owens Illinos, following 20 of service.
He servered as Justice of the Peace for Precint 4 for 28 years, also owned and operated Fontenberry Drug Store in Zavalla for 38 years.
Mr. Barge was a member and the oldest Deacon of the First Baptist of Zavalla. he was a 50 year member of the Zavalla Masonic Lodge # 1263 A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Barge servered on the Zavalla Cemetery Board for many years, and was active in various other Civic actives. He was a loving husband and Father , and Grand Father and Great Grand Father.
Surviors include his son and daughter-in-law, Alvis, Jr.and Judy Barge of Lufkin;daughter and son-in-law Rebekah and Greg Shives of Wylie; grandchildren, Jeffery Alvis Barge , Heather Renee Morgan and husband Chris Morgan,Allison Rashelle Shives and Gregory Dale Shives, Jr. one great grandson , Hunter Morgan; brother A.J. Barge Jr. of Colmesneil, sisters Myrtel Cassells of Zavalla and Lillie Mae Bellamy of Dam B. as well as numerous Nieces and Nephew and other relitaves.
Mr. Barge was perceded in death by his wife Elsie Mae Barge in 1992.
Alvis was also perceded in death by two Brothers James Byron Barge in 1952 and Claudie Jackson Barge in 1960.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Barge, Chris Morgan, Byron Barge, Rick Pitman, James Pickard and Wayne Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Gregory Shives, Jr. and Hunter Morgan.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Zavalla.
