Memorial services will be Saturday, August 6, at 1 p.m. in the Lizton Christian Church for Robert O. Rutledge, age 67, Maumee, Ohio, who died Tuesday, July 26, at St. Luke's Hospital, there. Graveside services will follow in the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 4725 Dorr St., Toledo, Ohio 43615; Connie's House, 643 Parkside Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43607 or to any homeless shelter. Arrangements were in charge of the Walter Funeral Home, Toledo, Ohio.
Born in Lizton on Dec. 23, 1926, he was a son of Harry and Edith (Hale) Rutledge. He graduated from Lizton High School and served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army in 1945-46 and was stationed in Germany at the end of the World War II.
Due to illness he retired in 1990 from the Nickles Bakery after 14 years and previously had been a paint salesman for 25 years for several companies.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Toledo, the American Legion Post 888 in Columbus, Ohio, and AARP. He had been a deacon in the Christian Church in Indianapolis while residing there. Mr. Rutledge was an avid golfer and gardener known for his superb tomato plants. he knew no stranger; he was a friend to everyone.
Surviving are his widow, Joanne E. Rutledge; a daughter, Rachel L. Rutledge of Indianapolis; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Reta Rutledge of Indianapolis; sisters, Katherine Brady and Maxine Dale; brother and sister-in-law, John and Ruth Rutledge, all of Lizton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, Karen Sehlhorst. A sister, Arline Wiley, preceded.
