Esther Rutledge, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013 in Indianapolis. She was 85 years old. She was born on August 1, 1927 in Highland, IL, to Orville and Thelma (Zilles) Malan.

Esther spent her formative years in Columbus, IN and Brown County. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1945, and received her R.N. from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in 1948. She later received her B.S. in Nursing from Indiana University, as well as degrees in Psychology and Geology. She retired as a Marion County Public Health Nurse in 1994.

Esther Muriel (Malan) Rutledge is survived by a daughter, Rachel Rutledge, and son-in-law, Rick Kint of Seattle; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Reta Rutledge of Beech Grove. She is also survived by several siblings, Barbara Strahl, Phyllis McQueary, Fred Malan, Howard Malan, Jack Malan, Fay Bracher, Bob Malan, and Karen Streeval, of Columbus, Nashville, and Brown County, IN, and by many, many nieces, nephews, and their families.
