Edgar died as a teenager, the third tragic death of the Baker's three oldest sons. James and John died on the same day in 1882 as young children from diphtheria. Edgar is buried in the Rosita Cemetery under a unique metal headstone. The stone has a metal door, under which is a copy of his 1897 obituary which states: "Edgar S. Baker, eldest son of G.W. and Hulda Baker, born in the Wet Mountain Valley near Westcliffe, Colorado January 20, 1879, where he lived until his death, caused by drowning in Meyer's Lake in Huerfano County, Colorado on July 18, 1897 age 18 years, 5 months and 21 days. He leaves his father, mother, brother Albert, born September 29, 1882 and two sisters Lily, born September 15, 1883 and Naomi born February 3, 1885 to mourn his loss. He is laid to rest beside his brothers James and John to await the resurrection morn."
