Francis Marion "Frank" Thomas Obituary Notice

F.M. Thomas passed away at his home in Brooks (Tuesday, July 11,1922) after a long siege of heart complications. The funeral was Thursday afternoon (July 13, 1922) at 2;30 at Brooks, the services being conducted by Rev. Mrs. Dessie Cupp-Cook. Interment was made in Prairie Rose Cemetery beside his wife, who preceded him four years ago.
Francis Marion Thomas was born in Champaign County, Illinois, September 5, 1844, and was aged 77 years and 6 days. He was married to Miranda McFarlin, March 18, 1868, coming to Adams county, Ia., in 1872. To them eleven children were born, three dying in infancy. Those living are Ed H. Thomas and M.M. Thomas of Corning; A.B. Thomas of Blakeslee, Montana; C.O. Thomas and W.W. Thomas of this county, Mrs. Inez Harper of Red Oak; Mrs. Jessie Mitchell and Mrs. Irene Lawshe of Brooks. Deceased had three brothers, Moses, John and Cyrus and three sisters, Emma, Armilda and Eliza, all of whom preceded him in death, except the two sisters, Mrs. Emma Yost and Mrs. Eliza Breedlove.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in the six months of service, then re-enlisting in the 4th Illinois Cav. under Gen. Custer, serving till the end of the war. He often asserted that he was personally acquainted with Abe lincoln.
Besides his children and grandchildren he leaves a host of friends. Mr. Thomas was a very cheerful old gentleman and endeavored at all times to make life a little more pleasant with those with whom he chanced to meet.
