Joshua C. Appling Called By Death

Joshua C. Appling, 73, a native of Mississippi, died at his home last night at 10:53 o'clock. He had been a resident of Madera county for the past 32 years and had been in California for 67 years, spending most of the time prior to making Madera his home in Merced and Mariposa counties.

Appling worked at the carpenter trade for many years. He was a candidate for councilman at the last city election. For many years he had been a loyal member of the Methodist church.

Mourning him are his widow, Mary; two sons, C. J. Appling of Fresno and C. L. Appling of Long Beach; three daughters, Mrs. D. A. Miner of Madera, Mrs. F. E. Bulfinch of Oregon House, California and Mrs. C. E. Carpenter of Yosemite valley; two brothers, W. E. Appling of Riverbank and L. L. Appling of Madera; one sister, Mrs. A. L. Mullins and 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the Methodist church with burial in Arbor Vitae cemetery.
