Obituary from Gospel Messenger, Sept. 18, 1894 - At Esterly, La., Aug 17, 1894, of hea(r)t and lung trouble. Bro. Jacob Silvuse, aged 67 years, five months and 20 days. He was born in Augusta Co., Va. He moved to Holt Co., Mo., some 20 years ago, where he was elected to the office of deacon and was faithful in his work. Over three years ago he moved to Esterly, La., where he labored faithfully. His mode of living spoke volumes for him. He leaves a widow and two daughters. Jacob was married twice. 1) Elizabeth Kline 18 Feb 1850. All 4 of their sons died young. The 3 younger ones died of diphtheria during an epidemic in 1863. Elizabeth died later the same year. No place of burial is recorded but we would assume she was buried in Linville Creek Cemetery with her sons. 2) Susannah Miller 21 Jan 1866. Susannah had a 4-year-old daughter, Fannie, when they married. Jacob adopted her and treated her as his own. Jacob and Susannah had one biological daughter, Susan Catherine Silvuse 21 May 1869.
