Karl H. Beringer, 79, of Harborcreek Twp., was lovingly surrounded by his family when he died Monday, June 29, 2009 at his residence following a two month illness. He was born in Erie on July 27, 1929, son of the late Anton and Mary Beringer. Karl was a member of St. James R.C.Church. He was also an active member of the Eastside YMCA. He was a 1948 graduate of Academy High School, where he lettered in varsity football and track. Karl was an avid outdoorsman, still enjoying hunting, ice skating, swimming, bicycling and hiking even to his final year. He retired from Hammermill Paper Co. following 44 years of service. Karl was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Lois "Mae" Beringer, who died in 1981; a brother, Tony Beringer; and two sisters, Marian Kaberlein and Margaret Louise Beringer. He is survived by four children, Eric Beringer, Gary Beringer , Margaret McGarvey (Kenneth), and Dean Beringer (Ed). Karl is also survived by his companion, Prudence Caldwell; his nephew, Keven Beringer; seven grandchildren, Carrie (Kathy) and Emily Rodgers (Devin), Amanda (Matt), Erica, and Adam Beringer, and Kim (Nate) and Brian McGarvey; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Samantha, Jacob, Hailey, and Madilynne.
Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetary. Memorials were made to Hospice of Metropolitan Erie.

Karl had a hunting camp in Pa. that he enjoyed. He was a long time member of the YMCA.

Karl left a wonderful impression on all who knew and loved him. He bravely battled brain cancer for 11 weeks after diagnosis. I love you Dad and will miss you for all the rest of my days.
