This is my Aunt Hazel. She was my great-aunt. She was married to my Mom's uncle Earl. Aunt Hazel lived down the street from us when we were little. Sometimes she would baby-sit us kids. She was a big part of our lives.

Aunt Hazel and Uncle Earl were married January 1, 1913 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Greenough. They had two daughters, Lorraine and Mary Constance (Connie,) and one son, Burton. They lived in Saunemin their entire married lives.

Aunt Hazel always had my sister and me over to her house to celebrate our birthdays together. Her birthday was Jan. 17, my sister's was Jan. 15, and mine was Jan. 22. She would pick a day between them, and have us over for lunch and cake. Then she would give us a treasured piece of her old jewelry. I still have her gifts to this day. We went for these birthday parties for many years, clear until I left for college.

Sadly, Aunt Hazel was in a car accident going to visit her brother-in-law who was in a nearby town, in a nursing home. She was a passenger in a car that was hit head on going around a curve. Nearly every bone in her tiny body was broken. We hurried to the ICU trauma unit where she was taken. Her first words to me were: "Pam, I knew you would come."

My heart almost fell out of my body. I can still remember the helpless feeling I had seeing her like that. That she was able to speak at all, was a miracle.

Aunt Hazel recovered somewhat, but eventually the accident took its toll, and she passed away.

We sure loved our Aunt Hazel.
