Lorraine Freeman Allred of 728 William Avenue died Sunday, December 8, 2002 following a fifteen-month long struggle with cancer. A native of Asheboro, born January 10, 1943, she retired with thirty years of service with NCDOT as a secretary with the Asheboro district office. She was preceded in death by her mother Sarah Freeman, and is survived by her husband William Bill Allred, a daughter Lisa Dawn Allred Tucker and son-in-law Jim Tucker of Lexington, her father Leonard Freeman, and her sister Evelyn Martha Hussey; as well as a stepson Ken Allred, and two step-grandchildren Daniel Brown and Ashley Allred.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 from 6-8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 2:00 pm at Oakhurst Baptist Church where she was an active member. Dr. Richard Crider will be officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, Randolph Unit, P.O. Box 515, Asheboro, NC 27204 or to Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27203 would be welcomed.

The family wants to express their sincere gratitude for the kindness that has been shown during this difficult struggle. Those who knew Lorraine would appreciate the sense of humor she maintained throughout everything. She loved good conversation, good food, and good friends. She achieved the goals that she had set for her life and died peacefully at home.
