Chico Record, Thursday Morning, January 5, 1922, pg 4 col 2: Death Summons Mrs. Mary Howard After Long Illness.

Mary Harlan Howard, a resident of Chico for the past 10 years, and of California for the past 55 years, died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.C. Shirley, in the Shasta road, after a lingering illness of the past two years. She was 84 years old. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Bicknell & Moore chapel. Rev. Galen Lee Rose of the Christian church will officiate. As a result of the death of Mrs. Howard, the meeting of the Women’s Christina Missionary Society of the Christian church, announced for this afternoon, will not be held. Mrs. Howard was born in Kentucky and had resided in Woodland during the greater part of her residence in California. She was actively associated with the work of the Christian church in that city. She has lived with her daughter in Chico for the past ten years. Surviving her are the following children: Mrs. L.C. Shirley of Chico; J.W. Howard of Chico, Mrs. Emma Gray of Fresno, Dr. J.L. Howard of San Francisco and R. Howard of Woodland.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Howard were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the chapel of Bicknell & Moore on Third street. Rev. Galen Lee Rose and Rev. George T. Meeker officiated. The body will be sent this morning to Woodland for burial there. Mrs. Howard was the mother of Mrs. L.C. Shirley who resides on the Shasta road.
