MERVIN E SHAMBAUGH

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. ‹ U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (Ret.) Mervin E. Shambaugh, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at the Saint Francis Nursing Home.

Mr. Shambaugh was a native of Gormania, W.Va., and a resident to Newport News for 34 years.

He retired from Fort Eustis in 1972 after 32 years of service. He also retired from the city of Newport News as an electrician after ten years of service. He was a member of the local VFW.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Joan Shambaugh; three children, Patricia Ann Hicks, of Newport News, Marjorie Sue Wanzer, of Columbus, Ga., Mary Anne Rauchfuss, of Chesapeake; two sisters, Louise Knotts, of Saint George, W.Va., Audria G. King, of Oakland; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Burial with full military honors has been held at Arlington National Cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Umphlett Funeral Home.
