Theodore was the son of William Mortimer Houghton and Mary F. Doney, he appears on the census in 1870 of Pond Springs, Williamson County, Texas, and later on June 26, 1900 he was in Precinct 8, Williamson County, Texas and by 1910 living in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. He married Anna Eliza Rutledge, daughter of Capt. William P. Rutledge on June 23, 1867. He entered the war and served in Company D 11th Texas Infantry, serving three years in the Trans- Mississippi Dept, taking part in the battles of Pleasant Hill and Mansfield.
