John is s/o William & Elizabeth Stull/Stuhl Kimmel. Civil War Co.E 47 Wisc. Inf
John KIMMEL was born on July 9, 1846 in Sandy Tp, Stark Co, Oh. He was buried in February 1865. He died on February 23, 1865 in Harvey Hosp, Madison, Dane Co, Wi.
Assets:
woolen blanket, pair of drawers, vest, cap, pair of shoes, pocket book, pair of suspenders, pocket knife, and pocket looking glass.

He was to serve military Jan-Feb 1865 in Civil War, Co E 47th Wisc.Infantry.22
John signed up in the Civil War. Private. John was 5'-4" tall, blue eyes, black hair,
light complexion. After mustering into service on 28 January, 1865 (Madison, WI)
he was assigned to serve in Tennessee area with his other comrades.
He became ill, was hospitalized on 16 February, and diagnosed soon after as having pneumonia. He died seven days later on 23 February, 1865, in the Harvey Hospital in Madison. Prior to his death, he resided in Fennimore Grant County, 3 District, WI; and was a farmer by trade. John moved out of his father's home before his 18th birthday, and was farming near to Madison. He decided to enlist on January 28th, 1865 for a period of one year; since he was turning of age. It is apparent that he contracted pneumonia soon thereafter, apparently while going through basic training, and was immediately hospitalized. Apparently the pneumonia quickly turned into diphtheria (black measles), and none of the family members were notified of the seriousness of the illness. John was to have been given a bounty of $100.00 for enlisting , and it was never paid! He was supposed to join his regiment in Nashville, TN immediately after completing basic training. Having never arrived there he was listed as "absent" from February 8th until September 4th, when his company finally mustered him out; although the Army did have him on the hospitalized list for a short while; and even had him listed as dying on February 23rd. The medical branch never notified the Tennessee branch of his illness or death!
