Sortais- Frank and Jennie. Frank was born in France and came to the US when he escorted a load of Percheron horses to the Denver area in 1884. He stayed in Colorado and became a teamster, based from Durango. While staying at a boarding house downtown, he met young Jennie Stevenson. She was visiting from Texas with her mother. They married in 1894 and farmed on a beautiful piece of property on the Florida River, just north of what is now CR 234. They donated land for the Sortais school house, which is now a home owned by the Bishop family. Frank and Jennie had two children - Marie and William. Marie married Mike Osten, and they are both buried in this cemetery. Jennie was active in both politics and community affairs. From census records, it appears Frank died sometime between 1910 and 1920.
Jennie's mother is also buried in Florida cemetery - Lockey Stevenson.
